December can be a tricky month for anyone who celebrates the holidays. There are gifts to buy, baking to do, cleaning for company and extra social events to attend. When’s a writer supposed to find time to write?
I’ve been beating myself up about not getting any writing done since Nano ended on November 30th. But as it turns out, it really wasn’t a bad thing after all. I only wish I hadn’t allowed myself to stress out about it so much!
Now that the Christmas tree and decorations are all back in storage in the basement and the last remnants of holiday treats have been eaten, I find myself experiencing a new-found energy and creativity. I’m reading writing blogs, ezines and books. I’m plotting and planning. But most of all – I’m writing again.
As it turns out, sometimes you need to step away to Recharge.
How did you fare as a writer celebrating the holidays? Did you stay on track, or let things fall a bit by the wayside like I did?
January 10, 2012 – recharged and ready for writing!

I’m so busy marketing my novel, Rose’s Will, that I have no time to write. Forget the the holidays! On another note, I just discovered that my book blurb sucks! Out of a list of about 25 books (mine included) that were offered for free to review, I got zero offers to read, which is in direct contrast to the unanimous 5-star reviews that Rose’s Will got on Amazon. Apparently, it’s much harder to write a blurb than to write a book! ;-(

It IS much harder to write a blurb for sure. Think about it – you have to condense an entire book into a few lines, so enticing, that people choose your book over the zillions of others out there. Definitely hard to do. Think about what makes you so excited about your book and try to get that excitement into the blurb.

December had me rather bogged down, too, writing-wise. I’m glad you got revitalized and are writing now, Jaclyn. Denise, I know marketing is half of writing these days. I got so enthusiastic about NOT writing much in December, that my 2012 writing goals are shot pretty high up there. I’m THINKING they are obtainable. It’s still January, after all.

I just need to be two, (or maybe three) people. Or we need a 9 day week or something. I’m a master at organization and not wasting time so it’s very frustrating to end up not having enough time to write just because there’s way too much else to do…sigh.
